Flyttr Receives Landmark Approval in Brazil for Commercial Production and Deployment of Dengue-fighting Wolbachia Mosquitoes

Campinas, Brazil – July 22, 2026 – Flyttr today announced that Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) has granted approval for the production and sale of Flyttr's dengue-blocking Wolbachia-based mosquito solutions in Brazil, marking a significant step forward in the fight against dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. The decision authorizes the use of Flyttr's Wolbachia for deployment within Brazil's National Arbovirus Control Program, in which municipalities can access Federally provided funds for help combating these deadly threats. 

From its Campinas facility, which is the world's largest and most advanced mosquito production factory, Flyttr can produce sufficient Wolbachia mosquito eggs to protect up to 100 million people a year, almost twice the next-largest Wolbachia facility. The scale was built to provide public health authorities and cities across Brazil, Latin America and beyond the ability to source, procure and deploy professional, cost-effective Wolbachia supply at scale.

Wolbachia is a naturally occurring bacterium that, when established in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, reduces their ability to transmit dengue, Zika, chikungunya and other arboviruses. Because Wolbachia is inherited by offspring, the trait can become self-sustaining in local mosquito populations, reducing the need for repeated interventions over time. The method has been formally recognized by the World Health Organization, and ANVISA's review noted extensive international evidence supporting its safety and effectiveness across more than a dozen countries. In Indonesia, Wolbachia deployments achieved a 77% reduction in dengue incidence and an 86% reduction in hospitalizations. 

In Brazil, Flyttr’s Wolbachia platform will support the national government’s dengue control program. Globally, Flyttr can supply governments with bulk egg supply, egg-based deployment devices, adults, and the supporting infrastructure to support the efficient deployment of Wolbachia. In addition, Flyttr offers both the most widely used Wolbachia strain to date, known as wMel, and the more heat-tolerant version, wAlb.
